Fishing in Cania Dam

lake cania
Cania Gorge National Park is also known for its beautiful man made lake. Lake Cania has beautiful lawns and picnic area and is surrounded by rocky cliffs, which gives it a very picturesque backdrop. The dam was constructed for the purpose of agriculture but has become very popular with the locals as well as the tourists for picnics, water sports and fishing . It is also a very popular Fly and Bait fishing spot. It is well stocked with Bass, Saratoga, Yellow Belly, Silver and Spangled Perch, Snub Nosed Gar and Jewfish. Fishing permits are available at our Retreat.

We have a lot of useful information, maps and descriptions of the scenic drives and the excellent 4WD tracks with creek crossings, very steep slopes, rough roads, country roads or roads lined with the majestic bottle trees. Visit Kroombit Tops National Park with the crash site of Beautiful Betsy or the rusty remains of the old Gold mine of Monal Gold Fields, which peaked in 1894.
